Viability Assessments

Weekly update - 4 October 2019

What did we do this week?

We kicked off the week with the first show & tell of this phase of the project! It was great to see such a good turnout, not just from Southwark where we were presenting, but also from across our partners in Tower Hamlets, the GLA and Connected Places Catapult. We got some great feedback from attendees as well as answers to some of the questions that we came across during the first sprint.

Viability S&T1

We continued our testing of the concepts from discovery (the viability assessment checker and the review & comparison tool) with a viability officer in Southwark, a third party viability consultant and viability experts at the GLA. This testing is helping us answer some of our key questions at this stage and providing valuable suggestions for features and how these tools might fit into the process. Testing is also raising more important points which we need to validate as we progress.

We had a really helpful meeting with partners and expert voices looking at the demand and options for a common viability data standard. It is likely that this could form a crucial part of our work and inform what data fields we include in our prototypes.

We’ve also started building our software development framework which will support the prototypes and answering some of the big questions on the product side of things - who will find value in this work?

We’ve set up the space where we will be collaborating on the operational blueprint, including laying out the jobs to be done and where they fit in the future state journey, as well as some options for how the prototype journeys fit together to challenge our current thinking.

What's the plan for next week?

  • Yet more testing sessions with different users, including showing our concepts to developers for the first time.
  • Establishing our data schema and what data sources we need to pull from in our prototypes.
  • Building out the front end components for our prototypes.
