Viability Assessments

Weekly update - 18 October 2019

What did we do this week?

  • We’ve been busy as a team synthesising all of our findings from our many testing sessions to date and turning them into insights informing development of our prototypes.
  • We had our second show & tell of the alpha phase to share where we’re up to and get feedback on where we’re going. We also welcomed the valuable opportunity to work alongside colleagues at Tower Hamlets council.
  • We’ve been experimenting with how we might present existing developments and map these within borough boundaries for the comparison tool, as well as drawing out how the site search might look (below).

  • We’ve been developing the process of pulling data from previous viability assessments - compiling a store of appraisals and summaries and creating a scraper to pull out relevant figures
  • We’ve continued to reach out to other knowledgeable figures in the planning system for their input, and we had an enlightening conversation with a representative of small-medium size developers who is also going to connect us to people to test with.

What's the plan for next week?

  • We’ll be sharing our report on the findings from concepts user testing
  • We’ll be coming back together to prioritise the next steps on development of the comparison tool and where we want to go with the checker tool, thinking particularly about what will be most valuable to test and when
  • Prototype development will continue off the back of this
  • We’ll also be mapping out our next moves for pulling together the operational blueprint
