Viability Assessments

Weekly update - 22 November 2019

What did we do this week?

  • We have been largely focused on lining everything up for a final bout of testing next week with case officers and viability officers. This has involved designing the sessions in-depth, preparing discussion guides and supporting materials.
  • We have been preparing data for one of the specific tests around filtering data in the comparison tool to find comparable sites, ensuring the tool contains enough developments, with enough of the relevant information, to allow an officer to make an informed selection of comparables given an example scenario.
  • We’ve likewise been working to get the prototype as ready as possible for live testing, by adding some more filters for selecting comparable sites, as well as resolving some technical issues.
  • We had a very informative discussion with a viability consultant, to work through the most important data fields to surface for officers and how they might be presented. They also gave us sight of some of the tools that they use, which can help inform our design, and some additional ideas to explore, regarding data collection.

What's the plan for next week?

  • We will need to digest our learning from the final round of testing and what our findings mean for the future service and what further work would look like beyond the alpha.
  • On a related note, we will begin nailing down the shape of our narrative for the future state of viability - including the key elements, users and benefits - which we will be sharing at the London Viability Officers Group meeting in December.
  • We have a couple more leads to pursue on the data collection side of things. We’d like to explore as many avenues as we can before the end of alpha, so that we’re in the best place possible to take forward the implementation of a data collection ‘pipeline’, as a priority in the future.
