Viability Assessments

Weekly update - 29 November 2019

What did we do this week?

  • We kicked off the week with our final big testing session of the phase, bringing in case officers, viability officers and other experts to walk them through the future journey we’re envisioning and get them using the prototype and some other tests we’d prepared. This was a really valuable session that has set the direction for the remaining activities of this phase and guided our forward-looking recommendations.
  • We have been working on finding the best ways to articulate our future vision for viability and have put together some visualisations to help people understand the various elements of what we’re driving towards and how it all fits together
  • We have made some key updates to our data schema, incorporating feedback from our testing and further conversation with viability experts. Reminder that you can find (and use) it here.
  • We have also been making some final tweaks to the prototype for this phase. Based on feedback from testing, these are geared around ensuring users can focus on the key things we want them to focus on, rather than slight discrepancies in the test data and wording used in its presentation.

What's the plan for next week?

  • We will be presenting at the London Viability Group meeting at the GLA on Tuesday 3 December. Here we will give the audience on overview of what we’ve been up to and communicate the future state - and associated benefits - of viability. We’ll be looking to build some interest in order to get more councils involved in future phases.
  • We will be focusing on wrapping up the alpha, which will include more efforts to articulate and visualise our key findings and suggested next steps into an overarching narrative.
  • We will be outlining the prioritised backlog of work that will need taking forward in the next phase(s).
  • We will be pursuing a potential ‘quick win’ within the Planning team at Southwark, to surface and present viability information focused around the strategic Old Kent Road area.
