Next steps

Southwark Council was awarded a grant by NHS Digital and the Local Government Association to work with health and social care partners including Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Lambeth Council in adapting the current Safe Steps app for community use.

The project is part of the Social Care Digital Innovation Programme funded by NHS Digital and managed by the Local Government Association. The programme supports the adult social care sector to use digital technology to respond to challenges in local areas. It's intended to enhance direct practice, improve information sharing and enable integration.

It’s planned that Safe Steps’ new app will support health and social care teams when making in-home visits. As well as risk assessments and action planning, a ‘carer’s companion’ app is also planned for development. This will allow designated carers to access action plans and support risk management.
