Safe Steps community app

On to development - August 2020

Taking into consideration the feedback we received last month, the team at Safe Steps made some tweaks and edits to the initial design. This included a more detailed profile to make the referral process simpler, some further Information Governance requirements, a new team admin view and some visual changes to increase ease of use. This we shared with the project board to discuss whether it is ready to progress to development. This discussion raised further functionality that we added to the ever-growing list of next phase developments. As a result, we received sign off to progress to development.

Having received sign off, and having begun work on the development of the app itself, the project team turned their focus towards the testing, rollout, and evaluation of the project. Aided by discussions with Snook service design, we began looking into the work done on remote testing and rollout by other Social Care Digital Innovation Programme funded projects. We also started working on identifying what criteria we could measure in our evaluation of the impact of the app on our key benefit areas: achieving greater awareness around falls prevention strategies, greater satisfaction with falls prevention services and reduced falls in those being assessed using the Safe Steps community app.

Moving forward, our focus will be on discussions with frontline staff, services who will referred to, and friends, family and carers who will be involved in the rollout of the app. This will aim towards understanding how best to deliver training in using the app for testing and for eventual rollout. We will also continue to collect our baseline data for evaluation, and develop our long-term evaluation plan.
