Safe Steps community app

Initial co-design - March 2020

In March, the team from Safe Steps ran a couple of co-design workshops with staff and colleagues from the voluntary and community sector working on falls prevention. The discussions were based around the referral functionality of the app. Key takeaways from this were the challenges that the current system poses to the services involved, particularly in sharing information about risk assessments completed and actions required. It also highlighted the difference in approach that is required for dealing with falls prevention in the community as opposed to in the care homes the Safe Steps app is currently used in.

We also ran workshops with residents at extra care facilities in Lambeth and Southwark. The sessions were split between two user groups: the staff who will be using the app, and the carers who will be using the companion app. The staff involved showed real interest in the possibilities of the app in improving their service. It also highlighted the diverse nature of the users who will be signed up to the carers companion app, and emphasised the need for this to be user friendly and clearly outlined to achieve the desired benefits.
