Length of service: 3 years

I wanted to work in Local Government because I wanted to give back to the community. I joined Southwark Council specifically because I was impressed by the diverseness of the team, the workforce and the borough. This was not the norm in organisations that I’ve worked for previously.

I was born in Jamaica and moved to the UK in my early teens (which presented its own challenges and barriers but that’s for another time). I hold a degree in Accounting, Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Development and a Masters in Personnel and Development.

My career started in one direction and ended up in another, like most people. Having completed my studies I started out as an Accountant. I realised that I had a true passion and love for people and empowering them to be and achieve their best. I made the move into Human Resources following a lengthy period of part-time study whilst working full-time.

I have worked in a number of roles in the public and private sector in Human Resources and Learning and Organisational Development. My passion and dedication has led me to work across a number of organisation empowering and enabling staff to achieve great things both personally and professionally, which is my great achievement. I’m also proud to lead a diverse learning and development team that is focused on the development of the council’s workforce.

I am looking forward to championing the impact and passion of BAME staff in the council. I want to help enrich the lives of our staff and help them to achieve their full potential in their personal and professional journey so they can continue to deliver the best quality services to our residents and communities.
