The planning enforcement team

The planning enforcement team investigates and remedies breaches in planning control, including where:

  • development appears to have taken place without planning permission
  • work is carried out without complying with conditions attached to planning permission, or on a listed building without obtaining consent
  • land is untidy or a building is derelict
  • an advert is displayed without advertising consent
  • unauthorised works carried out to protected trees

If a breach is identified, it may be handled in a number of different ways depending on the severity and type of breach of control. The government has provided detailed guidance on the enforcement system including the various types of enforcement outcome and actions.
