Garden waste collection subscriptions
Garden waste sacks
Since 1 June 2019, the council has no longer provided free garden waste sacks. If you have space to store a garden waste bin, then we recommend you subscribe to the standard garden waste subscription service. Garden waste sacks are suitable if you only produce garden waste occasionally, or don’t have anywhere to store a bin. To be able to order garden waste sacks your property must be eligible as not all properties can have this service.
They are made from 100% biodegradable paper and are available for £40 per 20 sacks and can be ordered from the link below. After ordering please ensure that you present your bags (filled to the fill level mark) in a visible and accessible location and remember to book an unscheduled collection of your garden waste sacks to ensure they're collected. If you use any other kind of garden waste sacks, they will not be collected.
You cannot use your garden waste sacks for food waste, but you'll still receive a free separate collection of food waste if you have the organic waste collection service now.
You can use your garden waste sacks for:
- grass cuttings, leaves, flowers
- plants, twigs and branches (no more than 10cm diameter)
You can’t use your garden waste sacks for:
- food waste
- fencing or other waste wood
- soil, rubble, stones or gravel
- non-compostable materials, including plastic bags, flower pots or trays
You can still compost your garden waste at home, and residents of Southwark can still bring garden waste to our household waste recycling and reuse centre.
You can arrange for a maximum of 20 bags to be collected per arranged collection, but there is no minimum. If you need to buy more than 20 bags or get more than 20 bags collected you'll need to repeat the process more than once.
