Garden waste collection subscriptions
Subscriptions for 2020/2021 are now closed.
If you currently do not have a garden waste subscription and need to dispose of garden waste, you can visit the Reuse and Recycling Centre or purchase some garden waste sacks.
Subscriptions for 2021/2022 will open in February, and we'll notify households eligible for this service by delivering a leaflet. For existing subscribers we'll send an email reminder, if you've provided us with an email address.
Garden waste collections are provided as an optional service to households with gardens, for a small annual subscription charge. The charge for 2020/21 will be £30. This gives a weekly collection of a single 240 litre brown garden waste bin. You can pay for more than one 240 litre bin if you produce more than 240 litre of garden waste weekly. All subscriptions made from 1 April 2020 onwards will end on 31 March 2021. The price is fixed, so if you buy a subscription after April you will pay the same price as for a full year.
Your garden waste bin cannot be used for food waste - you should use the free separate collection of food waste.
You can use your garden waste bin only for organic waste which can be composted, including:
- grass and hedge cuttings, leaves, flowers, weeds
- plants, twigs and branches (no more than 10cm diameter)
You can’t use your garden waste bin for:
- food waste
- fencing or other waste wood
- soil, rubble, stones or gravel
- Other materials, including plastic bags, flower pots or trays
You can still compost your garden waste at home, and residents of Southwark can still bring garden waste to our household waste recycling and reuse centre.
Homes with gardens will be eligible for the new service providing you have somewhere to store a brown bin between collections. You cannot store brown bins on the public highway/pavement.
