Southwark Creates promotes opportunities within the arts, culture and events sectors each quarter.

Southwark Presents highlights upcoming activities and events happening across Southwark each month.

  • Art in the Park

    Art in the Park will run a series of all-age summer workshops. These will explore the theme 'Around the World in Burgess Park' and include:

    • movement life drawing with dancers and musicians
    • big group drop-in drawing activities in playgrounds
    • weaving and drawing with natural materials
    • using the park as a resource and inspiration

    The project will end with an exhibition in the Art in the Park studios and Chumleigh Gardens, co-curated with the participants.

  • Bermondsey Artists’ Group (Southwark Park Galleries)

    Bermondsey Artists’ Group will run a series of activities marking their 40th anniversary. These will build on two years of developing Global Majority and hyperlocal audiences. They will include:

    • two artist commissions
    • artist-led tours
    • free-to-access intergenerational workshops
    • training for the organisation’s workforce 
  • Blue Elephant Theatre

    Activities curated by Blue Elephant Theatre’s expanded Youth Board will include a multisensory family show. This will be developed and co-created with young people who have complex access and communication needs. They will work in partnership with John Ruskin Primary School’s Language Unit, and Highshore School.

  • British Youth Music Theatre

    Building on a collaboration with integrated dance company Candoco. British Youth Music Theatre will facilitate:

    • a new piece of music theatre with a group of disabled and non-disabled young people
    • outreach and engagement days at Mountview
    • taster days in Southwark schools
    • a four-day devising project and sharing at Candoco’s Day of Dance
  • Philharmonia Orchestra

    Supporting targeted delivery of 'Orchestra Unwrapped’, Philharmonia Orchestra's education programme in Southwark schools. The project includes:

    • INSET training:
    • music making workshops
    • resource packs
    • access to concert performances for school children and teachers

    The project will complement the Model Music curriculum and National Plan for Music Education.

  • Peckham Platform

    Peckham Platform will run intergenerational artist-led gatherings and workshops focused on Peckham “Aunties”. They will be collecting ten at-risk histories from women who relocated to Peckham in the first period of post-colonial migration. The stories will be recorded by three commissioned artists working with 50 participants. They will be shared at live events and through a digital community archive supported by UAL and Black Cultural Archives.

  • Queer Diary CIC

    Regular creative workshops for LGBTQIA+ people in Southwark. Queer Diary CIC will undertake training and increase resource to improve accessibility for LGBTQIA+ people who are D/deaf, disabled, or experience poor mental health. This will help meet the need for more inclusive LGBTQIA+ events and activities. Workshop participants will:

    • create and publish a zine
    • sharing coming-of-age stories from local people
    • socialise and express themselves through crafting
  • Siobhan Davies Dance

    Training and skills development for staff at Siobhan Davies Dance to:

    • support audience engagement
    • improve access
    • improve pastoral support

    There will be exchange sessions with Southwark Disablement Association and Southwark Black Parents Forum, and three family arts events. The company aims to attain Sanctuary in Arts accreditation through the project.

  • South London Gallery

    Support for South London Gallery’s Schools Programme to explore themes of inclusion and anti-racism. This will include:

    • in-schools collectives
    • teacher training workshops
    • a digital resources platform

    The project will build on long-term partnerships with local schools to engage children and young people from ethnically diverse backgrounds through:

    • gallery visits
    • artist-led workshops
    • creative careers workshops
  • Southwark Black Parents’ Forum

    A project celebrating Black heritage and culture, challenging Eurocentric narratives. It will tie in with Black History Month with three strands of activity:

    • a schools’ dance and drama project celebrating Ghanaian heritage
    • a photographic exhibition celebrating the contribution of the West African regiments
    • a forum exploring the experiences of the Windrush generation 
  • Staffordshire Street

    An expansion of Staffordshire Street's public programme, deepening engagement with existing audiences and reaching new ones. This will include:

    • art exhibitions and design shows
    • community heritage projects
    • participatory art festivals
    • a sustainability week

    The project includes a learning programme and extra regular events, music, performance, poetry and exhibitions. All platforming under-represented emerging artists for local audiences.

  • Theatre Peckham

    Theatre Peckham's programme supports training, showcasing, and performance opportunities for young people including:

    • The Academy (ages 3-16), providing young people with their first taste of the arts
    • Young Peckham (ages 17-25), a training programme for creatives and performers considering careers in the arts
  • Time and Talents Association

    Local residents will co-create a feature mosaic for the Old Mortuary. This will celebrate the experiences Time and Talents has provided over its 137-year history. The mosaic will represent local core values identified by participants. It will be unveiled during a summer celebration event. Activities include workshops in cooperative storytelling, painting and map-making.
