Queens Road Offices consultation
Queens Road 4 - Project Summary
Southwark Council’s proposed new offices at Asylum Road, Peckham
Southwark Council is proposing to develop land on the corner of Queens Road and Asylum Road with a new building for its frontline services. This new office will add to the council’s existing Queens Road campus and will be known at Queens Road 4 (QR4)
The site at 128-148 Asylum Road is council owned and has been identified as the ‘best fit’ - the most suitable and affordable site due to its size, transport links and proximity to the current Queens Road buildings.
The new offices will house services across Homelessness and Children’s Services which are currently located in a number of unsuitable buildings that no longer support service delivery.
These services are intrinsically linked with vulnerable users often accessing a number of different provisions across both Housing and Children's services. Currently, collaborative work between staff is hampered due to an inappropriate working environment and the fact offices are dispersed across the borough.
The co-location of these services represents an opportunity to provide a modern, high-quality building at the heart of the community which will ultimately improve the quality of our service for children, young people and families.
Work was undertaken between June and August 2018 to clear the site and demolish the existing development. The rationale behind this decision was to reduce council costs for maintaining the empty buildings.
The council will submit a planning application in autumn 2019 and hopes to have completed the new development by summer 2021.
