Library activities for adults

We have a wide variety of creative and educational groups in Southwark Libraries. Join us for free at any of the groups listed below to meet new people or try a new skill. These are our regular groups but keep an eye on the Southwark Presents What's On Diary for one off events, talks or author visits taking place.

Short story group
There’s no need to read the story in advance, as it’s read by Library Officers Teresa and Jenni, and the attendees during the session.

Creative writing group
Attendees are given a choice of scenarios to choose from, and then write a short piece which is read out among the group.

Poetry group
Library officers Jenni and Teresa choose two or three poems on a broad theme, like nature or childhood. They read them aloud and discuss them with the group. You're free to bring a favourite poem to read if you wish.

Knitting and crochet group
Weekly group for knitters and crocheters at all levels, from beginners to those more skilled. Wool and knitting needles are provided,

Poem Monday
Bring your poems to share in a relaxed supportive group. All adults welcome.

Weekly group for a wide range of genres. See in the library for details of the next film screening.

The club gives monthly talks on various subjects, from Senegal Cookery to Housing in Southwark and the Windrush generation. All are welcome.

Explore Southwark's worldly museum collections and stories while meeting new people. For ages 18-35.

A friendly and informal space suitable for beginners and those who want to work on their projects.
