This series of events will

  • include multi-generational community and culture focused events
  • contribute to the local economy
  • promote enjoyment of local cultural celebrations
  • encourage a deeper bond and understanding of subcultures within the Black community and also cultures from across the Global South
  • provide a local Windrush celebration without having to travel far
  • offer free entry for people aged over 70 and under 5
  • have a friendly and relaxed atmosphere
  • engage both young and older attendees
  • celebrate Black youth culture and talent from across our city
  • provide an opportunity for people to celebrate with the Caribbean community openly, freely and authentically
  • include a special free street parade
  • support a legacy event created to provide equitable access to our public spaces for marginalised communities
  • play a supporting role in keeping the legacy and importance of Windrush relevant each year
  • provide an opportunity to be part of annual celebrations
  • give access to trading opportunities for Southwark-based businesses
  • include locally based acts and those who have been connected with Southwark
  • offer a range of affordably priced tickets
  • offer both paid and voluntary involvement for local Southwark residents, marginalised groups, undocumented members of the community and those with diverse needs
  • offer temporary and freelance work opportunities for local people
