Lost and stray dogs

If you have lost your dog, you should check and contact Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, local veterinary practices and charity veterinary hospitals.

If your dog is micro-chipped, we'd advise you to alert your microchip database of your missing dog and to ensure the details held on the chip are up to date.

Southwark Council is introducing a Public Space Protection Order to tackle dog-related anti social behaviour, which will be effective from 19 March 2018.

Stray dogs

A dog becomes a stray when it does not have a person in charge of it and it is wandering at large in a public place or a non public place where it is not permitted to be.

If you find a stray dog you should:

  • contact the owner by looking at the dog's tag identification (if it's wearing one)
  • if the dog has no tags, call us on 0800 952 4444 to arrange collection

Our stray dog collection service operates Monday to Friday, between 8am to 5pm, including Bank Holidays.

You could also report it to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home

For all other animals, contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.

Dangerous dogs are dealt with by the police under Dangerous Dogs Act. In an emergency contact the police directly on 999
