Local recycling centres

You can take your recycling to more than 400 local recycling centres in Southwark. They are conveniently located beside the street, on estates and in some supermarket car parks. New recycling sites were added throughout 2020.

The materials are collected from the recycling bins at least once a week.

You can recycle:

  • paper
  • cardboard
  • glass bottles and jars
  • food tins
  • drink cans
  • aerosols
  • foil
  • plastics
  • food and drink containers (eg Tetra Paks)

Some of our centres have recycling bins for textiles, clothes and shoes and WEEE banks for small electrical items.

Useful recycling tips

  • allow space for everyone to recycle by squashing your cardboard boxes, drink cans and plastic bottles
  • do not put any other waste materials in the recycling bin or leave general waste in the area around the bin - this is classed as fly tipping and is a criminal offense; you can be prosecuted for dumping waste such as furniture, general waste, building or DIY waste
  • if you use a bag to carry your recycling in, empty the materials into the recycling bin and take the bag away with you
