Southwark Culture Health and Wellbeing Partnership
Southwark Culture Health and Wellbeing Partnership (SCHWeP) is an innovative and inclusive partnership addressing inequalities in health and well-being through culture. It is an informal cross-sector network of over 150 members with a core group of around 50 individuals. The network is re-launching its regular forums in Autumn 2022 and is looking forward to setting its priorities for months ahead with its members.
More about SCHWeP
SCHWeP is one of the first borough-wide strategic approaches to culture, health and wellbeing taken by a local authority. Although closely cooperating with the council, it works independently. Anyone can join, including artists, organisations, healthcare providers and researchers.
Southwark is a diverse community and experiences many of the health and social inequalities and challenges of an inner-city borough. SCHWeP has come together to tackle these inequalities through moving away from an exclusively medical model of care towards a more community-based, person-centred approach, which brings together the expertise and experience from all parts of the cultural community and health and care system.
Since its creation in 2019 the network has run a series of projects, connecting local providers, artists and organisations to have a real impact on community wellbeing.
For 2022 SCHWeP’s key strands of work are:
- Health Inequalities
- Social Prescribing
- Children and Young People’s Mental Health
