About me and my connection to Southwark

I am an Igbo (Nigerian)-US American-British interdisciplinary fibre and textile artist and sociologist based in Peckham, London. I use quilting, embroidery, appliqué, knitting, collage, writing, and photography to explore the intricate narratives of Black history and contemporaneity.

I am particularly interested in the intersection of race and 'folk' art in European/North American contexts, as well as textile art in 'non-Western' settings. Incorporating historical and contemporary references, my work becomes a transformative platform for exploring the complexities of the Black Atlantic diaspora.

Through multi-layered work, I visually explore narratives and advocate for inclusive and diverse representation. These mediums serve as powerful tools for storytelling, documenting historical and contemporary events, and offering insights into the interwoven tapestry of Black experiences across the African continent and diaspora. I actively engage with both historical representation and the contemporary relevance of these narratives, fostering meaningful conversations and critical engagement around race, identity, and collective memory.
