Safe Steps community app

Sharing the learning and testing the prototype – November 2020

This month started with a session re-connecting with the projects and programmes across the country that are funded by the Social Care Digital Innovation Programme. At this session, we shared our progress in the project so far with a number of other councils, highlighting the place the project plays in the wider Falls Prevention Strategy, and share the initial design that has led our development so far. It was a useful event over two days where we heard from those running innovate digital social care projects from across the country. Visit https://www.local.gov.uk/our-support/our-improvement-offer/care-and-health-improvement/informatics/local-investment-programme to read more about the different projects, and how they have used the SCDIP funding.

We have also been working closely with the developers at Safe Steps to get the initial prototype of our app ready for testing, which began on the 20th November. Testing this prototype with staff who will be using, both within the council and in our partner organisations, has been incredibly insightful. So far, the feedback has been very positive, and we have identified a number of areas for development ahead of launching the pilot app in the New Year.

Looking forward, we are working on defining our evaluation framework to help us identify what success looks like, and how we can refine and redevelop the app to move towards this. The feedback we have collected over the last weeks will build into the first iteration of the live pilot app, and we will be getting together the plans for our launch in the New Year. Another busy month to bring a very challenging year to the close!
