If you're at risk of being homeless

How we support people at risk of being homeless. How to contact us and what happens next.

Assessing your situation

If you're legally homeless or likely to become homeless in the next 8 weeks, you can apply for help from us. This is called making a homeless application.

The type of help you could get depends on your situation. When you make a homeless application, we will assess your situation to decide what help we might be able to give you. We will let you know our decision in writing.

Information you need to provide

To fully assess your situation, we will need some information from you.

If we give you an appointment, it will speed things up if you bring:

  • your tenancy agreement if you have one
  • any notices or letters given to you by your landlord
  • contact details of the people you've been living with
  • proof of identity (your passport or immigration status) for yourself and all members of your household
  • proof of your household's income, like payslips or proof of benefit entitlements

If you cannot get all of these documents before you come in, do not worry. It just might take us longer to provide you with full advice.

If you have any questions, call us on 0207 525 4140 (option 1) before you come in.

Finding you a home

If staying in your current home isn't an option, we can help you look for a private rented home

If you’re homeless, we may be able to help you find temporary accommodation.

We’ll carry out an assessment of your housing needs.

If you’re eligible, we’ll give you a personalised housing plan that sets out the steps you and the council should take to stop you becoming homeless or help you find new accommodation.
