Canada Water Theatre and Café tender opportunity

Operational notes from tour, 15 June 2022

Ground floor - theatre space

  • 150 seat capacity
  • Lighting rig, sound and AV equipment (NB some of the current technical equipment belongs to the current provider)
  • Single control point with desk is at the back of the auditorium
  • Racked seating is able to partly retract to convert it into more of a standing space. Space alongside the Stage Left auditorium seating can be used as wing space depending on the production
  • Connection with the square outdoors is via the fire doors as the large dock doors are currently not functioning. These would require additional investment to make them functional
  • There is no official loading zone, so loading has to happen swiftly
  • There are window covers, some can be removed to provide some daylight
  • The back of house space comprises one small dressing room
  • Outside of library opening hours (8am to 8pm) there is more flexibility in terms of noise levels and using space in the foyer on the ground floor
  • After library opening hours the building is run by Theatre staff who are responsible for health and safety, first aid, securing the building etc.

Ground floor – library and café

  • Half the ground floor space (excluding the theatre space) is dedicated to the café and half to the library. Specific seating exclusively for the café is allocated on one half of the space
  • Storage for the café is in a space next to the theatre. Food preparation is all done behind the café counter; there is no additional kitchen or prep space

First floor – main library floor

  • The main library floor is not a shared space, though joint projects or out of hours projects can take place in this space

Second floor – meeting rooms and quiet study area

  • There are six meeting rooms. All rooms have large windows letting in lots of natural light and are fitted out with tables and chairs. Larger rooms are fitted with a mounted projector, screen and smart boards.
  • Meeting rooms 1 and 2 have a sliding partition wall so can be used together or separately
  • Meeting room 3 is a separate large room
  • Meeting room 4 is a separate small room
  • Meeting rooms 5 and 6 have a sliding partition wall so can be used together or separately
  • The quiet study space area is managed by the Libraries team. Activities in the meeting rooms are required to take into account their location next to the quiet study area. Rooms are typically used for after school classes, training, meetings, yoga classes and book groups

Mezzanine level – staff space

  • The green room / staff room is shared space for all café, theatre and library staff
  • There is a dedicated space in the libraries office with a number of PCs for Service Provider staff use. The Service Provider is required to consider the size of the team needed to run the site given the limited desk / office space available on site
