Environmental Protection Team (EPT)'s role in licensing

Licensing is a separate permission system to planning. Although both permissions are needed for licensable activities, you can apply for either one first. It's more common that a premises will obtain planning consent before applying for a licence. Planning often consult EPT on the environmental impacts of planning applications.

Reporting noise and ASB from licensed premises

If you wish to report concerns with noise or anti-social behaviour from a licensed premises (including complaints outside of office hours), contact the Noise and Nuisance Team.

Our officers are consulted on:

  • Premises licence applications
  • Premises licence variations
  • Reviews of premises licences
  • Minor variations of premises licences
  • Temporary Event Notices (TENs)

Representations

We can make representations for any licensing objective, but commonly make a representation on the grounds of preventing public nuisance or on policy grounds. You can find out more information about representations and objecting to a license.
