Your Citizens' Jury

The council's response

In July 2022, the council responded to the jury’s recommendations at a meeting of the cabinet.

In its response, the council broke the 20 recommendations down into 93 sub-recommendations. Of these, the council ensured that 82 actions (88 per cent) are in the updated climate action plan and other council strategies. That includes 13 completely new actions – such as training for all council staff and councillors on the climate emergency.

The council also responded to calls from the jury to speed up action by allocating £7.5 million of new funding for key climate projects. Part of this funding is a £1 million investment in walking improvements. That funding will support the jury’s top recommendation to ‘Make Walking Great Again’. Further funding has also been allocated to a range of projects that will allow the council to continue to reduce its emissions.

Where possible, the jury’s recommendations are now built into the climate action plan. You can view the council’s live action plan, and track how it is progressing.
