Black History Month 2025
Please read this information carefully and in full before completing the online application form. These guidance notes provide details on:
What to avoid and what we do not fund
We are interested in your event proposal, how it will be planned and delivered, and how it relates to Black History Month and this year’s theme. Please avoid lengthy information on the background of your organisation and/or using statistical information about the communities your organisation serves.
In addition, we will not fund:
- core costs for the organisation, such as the work of existing staff
- costs for any resource that your organisation would not ordinarily be charged for using, such as a venue with an existing agreement in place
- the purchase of any equipment or hardware (if needed, the cost of renting these items can be included)
- gifts or prizes
- alcohol or any other intoxicant
Funding for food
Applicants may include food in their budget requests. Applicants must demonstrate how food will help meet the aims of the programme and the proposal event. Food costs as a percentage of the total budget will be considered by the panel as a factor in their decision-making. This must be clearly explained in the project proposal.
Funding for event publicity and advertising
To enable as much of the community as possible to know about and engage with events, applicants may include costs for publicity and advertising in their budget requests. Publicity and advertising costs as a percentage of the total budget will be considered by the panel as a factor in their decision-making.
Successful applicants must upload their events to the Council’s Southwark Presents webpage and clearly mark them as BHM themed.
