Waste collection services update - impacts of COVID-19

  • most household collection services are operating on the normal collection dates, although a small number of recycling and organic waste collections may take place on the following day as crews catch up outstanding work.  Please wait until the day after your normal collection before reporting a missed collection
  • please help by making sure you put the right waste into the right bin.  Clean recyclable material must go into the recycling bin (please flatten large items to take up less space) but these bins cannot be used for general waste.  It will take longer than usual to clear contaminated recycling bins
  • the bulky waste collection service is currently suspended, but completion of overdue collections is expected to start in the week commencing 25 January 2021
  • the recycling centre remains open but you will need to book an appointment.  Please check our website for COVID-19 precautions that are in place

You can find out more details of impacts and changes to services on the waste collection services  update page.

When to use the online form

Some collections are running late as a result of service disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak. You can find out more at www.southwark.gov.uk/coronavirus-wastecollections

You will not be able to make missed collection reports for household waste collections that have been delayed or suspended.

Please do not report a missed collection until at least the day after it was due, and if you are sure that your neighbouring properties have already been collected.  There could be a few days delay in dealing with a missed collection. Do not report a missed collection again for the same collection date, as this would cancel your first report and delay your collection further.

If your household waste has not been collected on the date when it was due to be cleared, you can report a missed collection using the online form.  You can check the collection dates lookup to see when your household waste collections are due.

Collections occur from Monday to Friday (some weekend days may be worked around the Christmas period) from 6am to 4pm.  Please wait until after 4pm on your collection day to report a missed collection.

To avoid your collection being missed, make sure you:

  • put your rubbish in your bin the night before your collection.  Only waste stored inside the bin, or reasonable amounts that are securely bagged alongside your bin can be collected
  • leave your bin where the collection crew can easily see it; be able to get access to it; and move it safely
  • if you put out waste in bags, make sure it is out by no later than 6am on the day of collection (some special arrangements apply in busy shopping areas timed collection areas where you have to put your waste out at specified times)

You can use this form to report the following non-collections:

  • general household rubbish - green wheeled bins, black bags and communal bins
  • household recyclable collections - blue bins/boxes, clear bags and communal bins
  • organic waste - brown bins for food or garden waste
  • clinical household waste
