Equality, diversity and inclusion
Our objectives
We promote equality in everything we do as a council.
The Public sector equality duty requires us to:
- eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
- advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
- foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
It also requires us to publish specific and measurable equality objectives every 4 years.
These must demonstrate areas where we're tackling inequality and promoting equality.
Our recent publication was the Southwark Equality Framework (PDF, 535KB) in 2021.
We've commissioned the Forum for Equality and Human Rights in Southwark to:
-
support and challenge us
-
help to ensure our policies are as fair as possible
Publishing information
We publish information to show that the design and delivery of our services is appropriate for all those who use them and need to use them.
It also helps us understand changing trends, needs and demands so we can adapt our services to meet these challenges.
This information helps make our organisation more transparent so you can monitor our performance.
