Southwark Climate Day
Climate Change Conference 2021
Our conference was the week before the international climate change conference (called COP 26). We focussed on the work taking place across the borough to reduce emissions and protect our natural environment. We also discussed the changes that need to happen at a national level, to help our community reach its climate goals.

Breakout session one: Sustainable travel
This session focussed on:
- how we can best reduce carbon in the ways we move around the borough
- removing petrol and diesel cars from our roads
- making walking and cycling easier
- looking at the intersection between accessibility and active travel
- talking about the work we're doing to promote cycling and walking in the borough
Breakout session two: Biodiversity and nature
This session focussed on:
- how we can protect and expand Southwark's habitats and biodiversity
- the role that the community plays in caring for the nature around us
- what we're doing to increase wildlife in our borough
Breakout session three: Business and sustainable consumption
This session looked at:
- how we can work to consume less
- how we can reuse and recycle more
- the role that business plays in consumption and waste
- how we can adapt processes to become more sustainable
Breakout session four: buildings and energy
This session focussed on:
- the role of buildings and construction in the climate emergency
- how we can improve the sustainability of existing buildings and build more efficient buildings
