The UK is divided into twelve electoral regions with between three and ten MEPs each. European parliamentary elections are held every five years when a number of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are elected for each regional constituency. Who can vote
You can vote in the European election if you are:
- registered on the electoral roll
- over 18 years of age or turning 18 by election day
- a British citizen, an Irish or Commonwealth citizen or a European Union citizen
- European citizens
- European Union citizens who wish to vote in the European parliamentary elections in the UK and not their home country must complete a European parliament voter registration form.
If you prefer to vote in your home country you do not need to complete a European parliament voter registration form.
