About me and my connection to Southwark

I have a studio and live in Southwark. My work is predominantly sculpture and drawing, as well as audio archive recordings of conversation and interviews. I am interested in autobiographical and collective memory, and how this can be expressed through tactile and material form. I particularly enjoy working with communities of people and museum collections. “In this time of human conflict and widespread environmental destruction, there is a glimmer of hope in the work of Helen Barff. Evidenced by intriguing, thought provoking castings and drawings, that speak of emptiness and remnants of memory. (Her work) reflects humanitarian issues. Identifying the power of the human spirit to prevail. She explores through communications and conversations with people that span a wide demographic. Since her graduation from Goldsmiths College 1999, she has created an eccentric menagerie of sculptures that take on a presence of animal, human, or something in-between.” Freeny Yianni, Close Ltd
