Register a small society lottery
Charities, clubs and non-commercial organisations that run small fundraising lotteries need to register with us if their head office is in Southwark.
Your organisation can raise up to £250,000 per calendar year using small lotteries. The proceeds from each individual lottery cannot be greater than £20,000.
You must submit records after the lottery has taken place.
Lottery conditions
Small lotteries must follow the following rules:
- the money raised from a single lottery cannot be more than £20,000
- the total money raised from all your lotteries in a year cannot be more than £250,000
- at least 20% of the proceeds must go toward the reason your society was set up
Ticket restrictions
All tickets in your lottery must be the same price. When someone buys a ticket, you have to give them a document that shows:
- who is running the lottery
- how much the ticket costs
- the name and address of a person in charge of the lottery
- the date when the draw will take place.
Only people over 16 can buy tickets.
Prize limits
The biggest prize you can offer in a small lottery is £25,000. This includes both:
- cash prizes
- the value of any goods or services offered as a prize
If a prize is not claimed, you can move it to a future lottery as long as you don't go over the prize limit.
