Thriving Streets - designing mobility for attractive cities

Southwark is a partner of Thriving Streets, a URBACT Action Planning Network of ten cities working together to improve sustainable mobility in urban areas from an economic and social perspective.

Mobility is at the crossroads of various urban policies. Thriving Streets is connecting mobility with economic prosperity, accessibility, inclusion, participation and health to encourage a change towards more resilient and attractive cities.

URBACT Action Planning Networks improve sustainable local policies through integrated action planning and an organised process of exchange and learning among cities across Europe.

Thriving Streets is a URBACT III project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

It's led by the City of Parma and includes nine other cities: Antwerp (Belgium), Nova Gorica (Slovenia), Igoumenitsa (Greece), Santo Tirso (Portugal), Oradea (Romania), Debrecen (Hungary), Klaipeda (Lithuania), Radom (Poland), London Southwark (UK).

The Network is developed in two phases:

  • Phase I:  6 months - 2 September 2019 to 2 March 2020
  • Phase II:  24 months (subject to application approval) - May 2020 to May 2022
