Health checks and screenings

NHS Health Check
The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. If you are aged 40 to 74, and you don’t have a pre-existing condition (such as diabetes), you should be invited to an NHS Health Check at your GP once every 5 years. It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as:
If you have an NHS Health Check in Southwark, you will also be offered:
- a brief chat about your mental health and wellbeing
- a quick check to see if you are up to date with your cancer screenings
- advice around bloodborne viruses (like Hepatitis and HIV)
Looking after these areas of your health and wellbeing is important to living a healthy life as you age. Everyone will be offered these during their NHS Health Check.
