Southwark Council has launched a new Night Time Uniformed Patrol Service (NTUPS) to improve safety and provide reassurance for residents, businesses and visitors after dark.
The service, which began on 18 August 2025, will run for an initial nine months and has been commissioned to complement the Council’s existing Community Warden team of 32 officers.
Operated by Kingdom Services Limited, a community focused security company, the patrols will run seven nights a week from 6pm to 2am. Each shift will be staffed by 8–10 uniformed officers and one team leader, bringing additional visibility and support to Southwark’s streets.
The patrols will be assigned to specific areas based on antisocial behaviour and crime data, current intelligence and emerging concerns, as well as being ready to respond to emergencies, incidents or major unplanned events.
Councillor Natasha Ennin, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhoods, said: “We know that feeling safe is just as important as being safe, and this new night-time patrol service will help deliver both. By deploying teams where they are most needed, we’re making sure our communities feel supported and protected. Alongside our community wardens, the new service will bring extra reassurance and visibility, helping Southwark remain a safe place to live, work and visit.”
The new service follows the recent roll out of additional neighbourhood policing teams in Peckham and Walworth.
