Southwark Council is asking local people to share their views on a proposed Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that could help reduce antisocial behaviour in the borough’s public spaces.
The council is considering introducing a PSPO as part of wider efforts to make Southwark a cleaner, safer and more welcoming place for everyone who lives, works or visits here.
Based on feedback and reports from the community, some of the issues being considered include:
- Street drinking leading to antisocial behaviour
- Public urination
- Dog fouling or dogs not being kept under control in parks and open spaces
- Amplified music and noise from vehicles
- Unlicensed music events
A PSPO allows councils to introduce rules that deal with behaviours that have – or are likely to have – a harmful effect on the community. These can be put in place for up to three years and reviewed regularly.
Before any decisions are made, the council wants to hear from residents, businesses and visitors. An online survey is now open and runs until 31 August 2025.
Councillor Natasha Ennin, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhoods, said: "We want Southwark to be a borough where everyone feels safe and respected. We know that antisocial behaviour is affecting people’s quality of life and we’re taking it seriously. This is your chance to tell us about the problems in your area so we can take informed action together."
