Nursery Row Park reopens following £690,000 upgrade

Nursery Row Park

Southwark Council is excited to announce the completion of £690,000 worth of improvement works to upgrade Nursery Row Park in Walworth.

The ambitious project set out to transform the local park into a vibrant, inclusive space for all to enjoy.

The refurbishment includes landscape improvements to make the East Street park entrance greener and more welcoming with a new layout, plant beds and additional seating.

The park now also boasts a new outdoor gym to encourage all members of the community, particularly women and older adults, to exercise more. The two play areas have also been refurbished and fitted out with new play equipment. The entrance to the children’s play area has also been improved.

The series of upgrades comes in response to community feedback, gathered through consultation events and meetings with The Friends of Nursery Row Park and residents. Residents expressed a desire for a welcoming space that could serve as a family hub for local people and children.

The Council also collaborated with residents to design the space ensuring the new space reflects the needs of the community. The final design both enhances the functionality and beauty of the park.

Councillor Portia Mwangangye, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Parks and Young People, said: “We know how important green spaces are to local people, so we are delighted to reopen Nursery Row Park to the community.

“Our residents deserve outdoor spaces that are well-equipped, safe, and welcoming, and I’m proud that we’ve delivered just that for the people of Walworth. We’ve also recently completed works at Victory Community Park and Frederick Adventure Playground, with more projects in the pipeline to ensure that wherever you are in the borough, you’re never too far from a thriving outdoor space.”

Over the last four years, the council has delivered transformations at playgrounds across the borough including improvements to Leathermarket Gardens Playground, Dickens’ Fields, Pelier Park, Peckham Rye Under 5s Playground, Victory Park, and Fredericks Playground.
