Local residents, families and councillors celebrated the opening of a new state of the art playground on the Bells Gardens Estate in Peckham on Thursday 14 August 2025.
The new playground was built to replace and upgrade the previous playground on the estate which was removed to make way for new homes.
Cllr Helen Dennis, Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, said:
āIām delighted to celebrate the opening of this wonderful new playground on the Bells Gardens Estate in Peckham. This vast playground is a fantastic resource for families here and on neighbouring estates and can be enjoyed by children of a range of ages with a wide range of equipment and one of the highest slides in London. I look forward to seeing children enjoying the play space here for many years to come.ā
Southwark Council is currently seeking a development partner to build new homes and a new community centre on the Bells Gardens Estate, and hopes to announce an appointment in the coming months. The council will work closely with local residents to plan any new homes on the estate.
Southwark Council is one of the largest local authority homebuilders in the country, having started or completed more than 3,000 new council homes across the borough.
