Free community events for all ages in Southwark during climate week (21-29 June)

Climate Week

Southwark Council has organised a week of free community events to bring together residents, community groups and businesses to take climate action. The week of events is taking place as part of London Climate Action Week, the world’s largest city-based climate change festival.

Taking place between Saturday 21 June and Sunday 29 June, the council’s highlighted programme of events across the borough includes:

  • A clothes swap-shop at Canada Water Library, where you can upgrade your wardrobe by bringing up to 5 pre-loved items to swap for new-to-you items.
  • A repair café in Nunhead, where you can get household items repaired for free.
  • Drop-in workshops to learn mending skills and learn bike repairs in Canada Water
  • Workshops to become a climate expert in Walworth Town Hall
  • Sustainability workshops for kids aged 6-12 happening in Camberwell Library, Canada Water Library and Kingswood Library.

On Saturday 21 June there will also be a High Streets for People event happening on Bellenden Road, and a community-led festival taking place in Burgess Park to officially open London Climate Action Week.

Councillor John Batteson, Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency, Jobs & Business said: “We’re committed to running annual events which bring residents and the community together to take climate action. This year we’re going even further with a week of free events spread right across the borough.

It's exciting to bring back popular events like repair cafés and clothes swaps as well as facilitating new workshops where residents can learn skills. We’re thrilled to play our part in London Climate Action Week 2025, and to keep improving engagement with our residents on climate action.”

Last year, the council’s free climate event known as Southwark Climate Day happened during London Climate Action Week at London Southbank University. After running this event for two years, following feedback from attendees and community groups, the council has expanded this event to multiple locations across the borough.

More details about the week’s events, including times, locations and how to book your place is available on the council’s webpages.
