Foster Care Fortnight 2025: a celebration of community and the power of relationships

Fostercare Fortnight

Southwark Council is excited to celebrate Foster care Fortnight (12 – 25 May 2025) with a series of engaging events and activities centered around this year’s theme “the power of relationships”.

The in-person events will help highlight the importance of fostering and provide support those considering becoming a foster carer.

The schedule includes in person recruitment and fostering stands across local libraries and public spaces, such as Tooley Street, Camberwell Library, Dulwich Library, and Canada Water Library.

These stands will provide resources and the opportunity to speak directly with fostering experts. To connect, other activities include a visit to the Dulwich Fair on 18 May, where the fostering team will be available to speak with attendees.

The events will also conclude with a closing ceremony at the Peckham Pod on 22 May, offering a chance to discuss becoming a carer and joining a diverse community of foster carers.

Southwark foster carers will be hosting workshops from cooking classes to reiki and yoga.

Councillor Jasmine Ali, Cabinet Member for Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Refugees, said: “Foster Care Fortnight is a powerful reminder that every child deserves a safe, loving home and you could be the person who makes that difference.

"Fostering is one of the most rewarding roles anyone can take on, and we welcome carers from all walks of life.

You don’t need to fit a particular mould, you might be single, part of a same-sex couple, a grandparent, a family friend, or simply someone with a desire to help.

“If you have the compassion and commitment to support a child, Southwark Council will be by your side every step of the way. We offer comprehensive training, ongoing guidance, and access to brilliant social workers who will ensure you never feel alone on your fostering journey.

"Now more than ever, we need people to step forward. Your care could change a child’s life and yours too.”
