Over 100 new homes finished and ready at Southwark Council’s latest development in Peckham

24 August 2023

Southwark Council has finished building 109 new homes at a development on Commercial Way in Peckham.

The development is made up of 74 council homes, eight of which are specialised wheelchair adapted properties, and 35 shared ownership homes.  The council has also provided outside communal areas, courtyards, and play spaces as part of the development. There will be 10 parking spaces, eight of which will be designated for wheelchair users and two of which will be for car pool cars.

The Commercial Way development has been shortlisted for Inside Housing’s ‘Best Affordable Housing Development (+£20m)’ award. The Inside Housing Development Awards ceremony is taking place on Friday 29 September 2023.

Cllr Helen Dennis, Southwark’s Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, said “I’m delighted to see this stunning new development completed in Peckham, with dozens of spacious new council and shared ownership homes ready for residents to move into. These high-quality new homes will be extremely welcome in an area which has a particularly high demand for truly affordable housing, and I’m excited to see the benefits this will have for the local community.”

In line with Southwark Council’s local lettings policy, 50 per cent of the new council homes will be offered to local tenants in housing need already living in the local area, so they can stay close to friends, family and the services they already use. The remaining homes will be allocated to others on the council’s wider housing waiting list.
