Employment opportunities and support for young people

You can find help below if you're interested in paid work or need support getting into your career of choice.

Southwark Works 

A free employment support service for residents of all ages, experiences and backgrounds and offers one to one support to help find a new job or a better job.

Southwark post 16 service 

Advice and guidance for residents aged 16 or 17-year-old who are not in education, employment or training.

Southwark care leavers 

Support for young people leaving care, who may be thinking about education, employment and training opportunities.

Support for young people with special education needs: Southwark local offer

Information on a range of services for young people with special education needs (SEN) including education and training.

Southwark Construction Skills Centre (SCSC) 

Support into roles within the construction sector, including apprenticeships on construction sites and careers behind the scenes. The centre is open to residents of Southwark and neighbouring boroughs.

Southwark Creates

Information on careers and opportunities in the creative sector plus talent development, funding, and networking.
Step up to social work programme for graduates

An intensive, 14 month, full-time programme for trainee social workers. Trainees will work in a local authority, gaining hands-on practitioner experience and academic learning. Successful trainees will be awarded a postgraduate diploma in social work once they complete the programme, allowing them to register and practice as a social worker.

Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS)

Job searching, application and interview support. You must be unemployed and getting benefits for at least 13 weeks before you can use the service. If you have a Job centre work coach speak to them about accessing JETS.

Kickstart Job Centre Plus (JCP)

Six month paid placements for 16 to 24 year olds receiving Universal Credit (UC). If you have a Job Centre work coach speak to them about accessing Kickstart.

Milkround 

Student and graduate career resource, with hundreds of internships, placements, graduate jobs and schemes to apply for.

Suited and Booted 

Advice and clothing for men who are, unemployed, on low-income, or vulnerable and have an upcoming interview. To access the service speak to your job coach or other services you may be receiving help from.

Dress for Success
