Why choose Southwark?

The London Borough of Southwark is an inspiring, progressive and entrepreneurial borough. It’s home to many of London’s most iconic attractions including London Bridge, The Shard, Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe, Borough Market, Imperial War Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery and the new cultural hub at Peckham and Bermondsey.

Southwark stretches from the internationally renowned cultural quarter along the South Bank of the Thames at it’s north end, with more urban Bermondsey, Peckham and Camberwell at it’s center down to leafy Dulwich at it’s southern tip. It incorporates five major parks and over 100 smaller public spaces suitable to host commercial events.

With 42% of residents aged 20 to 39, Southwark is the youngest and arguably one of the most vibrant places in London. The parks are one of the borough's most visited attractions and currently host over 100 free, community events per year. We also hold a range of income generating events within our parks and open spaces.

In July 2017 Southwark launched Creative Southwark its new cultural strategy (PDF, 3mb). The five year strategy sets out Southwark’s intentions to promote and secure Southwark’s cultural and creative landscape for now and for future generations. Outdoor events are an important part of this and the aspiration is to work with promoters, agencies and event owners looking to increase the diverse range of festivals and events in Southwark and promote cultural excellence throughout the borough.
