Description
You will be shown how to make a mini loom, upcycling cardboard boxes, and create your own tapestries, weaving common waste material, like old clothes, colourful plastic bags and other packaging. You will have fun choosing your material, assembling colours and textures as well as learning different weaving techniques.You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a collaborative artwork by weaving some natural fibers and other natural and compostable bits onto a large palette-loom that will be decorating the garden. Weaving can be enjoyed by children as young as 3 years old with their grown ups' help, this activity is the perfect occasion for both children and grown up to be creative and work together.
Feel free to bring any soft plastic or textiles you wish to upcycle as well as any natural bits like grass, bendy twigs or anything natural you wish to incorporate in the collaborative weaving.
About the facilitator
Maud Barrett is a textile artist and educator passionate about eco-friendly practices and upcycling. Her work looks at elevating everyday waste and nurtures conversations around sustainability and nature. She is also the founder of Sunny Jar Eco Hub, a social enterprise on a mission to make eco-living fun and accessible to everyone.
Who can attend?
This workshop is suitable for all ages. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children.
