Working at elections

We are always looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic staff to work in our polling stations, counting the votes or helping with our voter registration activities.

We would love to hear from you if you’re interested in becoming involved. You could help us by playing an important role for your local community and also earn some extra money.

Eligibility

To work for us, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • have the right to work in the UK (in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006)
  • consent to working in excess of normal working hours (as outlined in The Working Times Regulations 1998)
  • not be related or connected to any candidate at the election
  • not work on behalf of a candidate or political party at this election (paid or unpaid) or take part in any political activities, including signing any candidate's nomination paper for the election
  • comply with secrecy requirements
  • not have any criminal convictions relating to electoral legislation
  • be physically able to undertake the duties of the role you are applying for
  • agree to your details being stored on the Electoral Services staffing database

The submission of an application form does not guarantee a role. If you are not initially allocated a post, we will add your details to our reserve list.

Holding your information

The information you provide will be processed by the Returning Officer, who is the 'data controller' for the purposes of Data Protection legislation. It will only be used for the proper management of the election process and in the administration of election staff.
