Register to vote by 18 June.
If you need to vote by post, you must apply to do this by 5pm on 19 June.
You need valid photo ID to vote in person. If you don’t have valid ID, apply by 5pm on 26 June for a Voter Authority Certificate.

Census 2011 briefing

Total resident population in Southwark

The data released today gives an estimated population for Southwark on 27 March 2011 of 288,300.

In 2001, the census estimated a population of 244,866 in Southwark. This figure was subsequently adjusted to 256,700 by the ONS and is being used as the comparator figure for 2001.

Based on this figure, Southwark saw an increase in its population of 31,600 between 2001 and 2011, representing an increase of 12.3%. The local authorities with the largest growth in population were Tower Hamlets (26.4%) and Newham (23.5%).
