Drugs and alcohol

Street drinkers and the law

Street drinking and associated antisocial behaviour can impact on people's perception of the physical environment and more importantly their quality of life and safety. Groups of drinkers can sometimes be intimidating and stop people using public spaces.

If a crime is being committed, call the police on 999 or contact our dedicated antisocial behaviour reporting line on 020 7525 5777

Problem areas

Historically, street drinking has been a problem in several areas around the borough, including Camberwell, London Bridge and Peckham.

Drinking in public is not illegal and police can only deal with the associated illegal and antisocial behaviour. The public are encouraged not to support street drinkers by supplying them with alcohol or money and to report anti-social or illegal behaviour.
