Launch of Neighbourhoods Fund 2017-18

2 November 2016

Southwark Council is now excited to announced the launch of this year’s round of funding made available through Community Councils. The application process, kicks off on Monday 7 November, with the hopes of attracting applications from new groups with ambitious ideas, as well as those who have applied before.

The fund is particularly looking for projects that will bring benefit to local communities and their neighbourhoods, and has £630,000 to spend across the borough. Successful applications from £500 to £5000 that deliver community cohesion and improvements to the neighbourhood in creative and interesting ways, with particular emphasis on working in partnership with other groups, will be awarded by the Councillors on a ward basis.

Cllr Barrie Hargrove, Cabinet Member for Communities and Safety, said: "The Neighbourhoods Fund has allowed us to support a large number of great projects organised by local community groups and residents. The projects last year were selected from a range of applications, and included youth development, community festivals, sports activities which encouraged a wide range of participation and creative projects. These had the effect of bringing the community together, encouraging positive life changes, and have made a significant contribution to making Southwark a place that we can all be proud of.

"We are eagerly anticipating another crop of great applications from people who live, work or study in Southwark, and who have good ideas on how to improve their neighbourhoods"
