About the Outdoor Events Policy

Southwark Council first introduced a policy for outdoor events in 2006. The policy aims to provide guidance and regulation to event organisers, whilst also ensuring that public spaces are used in a considerate and sensitive manner. It was updated in 2011, 2017 and 2019 and has now been refreshed for 2023.

Public consultation exercises, in the form of a workshop and an online survey were undertaken to support the 2019 update of the Outdoor Events Policy.

The content of both the survey and workshop were aligned. The first part of each took a generic look at events across Southwark with the second allowing participants to talk about specific locations that were of interest to them. The findings of the consultation can be viewed in the summary report (PDF, 509kb) and appendices (PDF, 5.5mb).

About the Events Environmental Sustainability Guide

This guide has been developed and produced to support the council’s commitment to be a carbon neural borough by 2030. You can read more about this on the council’s climate emergency web pages. The guide takes effect from 1 April 2023.
