Description

In this workshop you will gain an insight into the creative process of knitwear designer Imogen Denton. You will also have the opportunity to knit an Imogen Denton piece in the workshop and discuss knitting-related questions or projects.

There are pattern options for beginners and intermediate knitters. Whichever you choose, you will receive a physical pattern to scribble your notes all over - so you can make it again and again.

The workshop will begin with an introduction from Imogen Denton who will explain the process behind designing the Hoof Mittens, Mudlark Belt and Key Pocket patterns. Imogen will discuss her key inspiration for each piece, from the V&A’s textiles archive to mythological images of goats, medieval agricultural workwear and found objects.

First session:

Imogen will explain how each piece is made up before you begin working on your chosen project.

If you have chosen the beginner option, you will be making the key pocket that includes essential stitches and techniques, while those who choose the intermediate option will be working on a pair of Hoof Mittens.

Imogen will be available to answer any questions you may have and provide you with some handy techniques and tips.

Lunch:

There will be some bread and bits to share, but please bring something to eat if you would like to join us. If you prefer, there are lots of independent places close by: Fillishack, Blackbird Bakery, Persepolis are all 5 min walks.

Second session:

The beginner knitters will use the skills they learnt in the morning to make a Mudlark Belt. The intermediate knitters will continue working on their Hoof Mittens.

We’ll also be joined by writer Louise Astbury, who will perform some of her poetry which she has written in relation to Imogen Denton’s collections.

In the final session there will be an option to continue working on your pieces or to bring any other Imogen Denton projects you are working on that you may have questions about.
