Description

This workshop will help you dive into the beautiful combo of being sexy and silly on stage, showing that clowning and eroticism go hand in hand. Here, ‘the erotic’ is treated as an essential life force expressed through curiosity and play. Together, we will discover how enlivening it can be to explore our (very naughty and deviant) sexualities through being absolutely massive idiots. How do we perform queer sexuality in a way that refuses commodification?

Expect to play with words, colours, shapes, movement, and objects in a laid back, friendly room. The first two sessions will be more focused on group exercises, while the second two will involve more solo performance. The workshops can be attended on a drop-in basis or as a course of 4.

Open to artists of any discipline. No previous experience required. There will be no nudity or physical contact in the workshops.

About

Rosa Garland is a clown, comedian, writer and burlesque artist. She likes things that are sticky, sexy and stupid. Her queer cult hit show Trash Salad has sold out at Soho Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe and VAULT Festival where it was nominated for the 2023 Innovation Award. It was named by the Telegraph as one of the best comedy shows at Fringe 2022 & 2023, and has toured internationally. Rosa has devised and performed with Poltergeist theatre company on Lights Over Tesco Car Park, Art Heist, and Alice in Wonderland, and co-wrote Chat/Bot and The Dining Room. She is currently working on her second solo clown show, Primal Bog, produced by Bighead Comedy.

Rosa’s work focuses on reclaiming the vitality and play of eroticism, in a society that constantly tries to repress, commodify, simplify or hetero-ify queer sexual experiences. Sexual expression can be silly, fun, transcendent, beautiful, gross, all of these at once and more, and Rosa wants to celebrate that.
